Charmaine (Char) VanWinkleMusic Director
Charmaine holds that music is one of humanity’s oldest and most universal forms of expression. From the earliest traditions of communal worship, music has been woven into the life of the Church as a way of teaching, remembering, celebrating, grieving, and connecting us to one another. Some of the world’s most renowned, complex, and enduring musical works were written for the Church with worship as the intent. Music is both a profound expression of faith, and a universal language through which we connect with God, one another, the saints who have come before us, and the world around us.

A classically trained musician and educator, Charmaine holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance, along with a Bachelor Degree in Biblical Science to include studies in theology, church history, and philosophy. Throughout her career, she has worked as a vocalist, teacher, accompanist, choir director, and music-program leader.

Charmaine is passionate about creating a joyful and welcoming music ministry where people of all ages can discover the gift of music, grow in their musical abilities, stretch their aesthetic appreciations and experience the beauty of sacred music. She especially enjoys exploring the rich history and tradition of music in the Church and believes that music can heal, encourage, unite, and express what words alone, at times cannot.
